The annual American Artwork presents a juried collection of contemporary painting, photography, sculpture and craft. Now in its 17th year, copies are printed in Hong Kong and mailed to design firms, art consultants, and galleries. Trim size is 8.5"H x 6"W. Printed on 128# Japanese Gloss art stock, smythe sewn binding. The print run for 2023 is 2,500 copies.
Juried by California College of the Arts painting Professor Emeritus Howard Eige and former Oakland craft gallery owner Jan Christensen-Heller. Our publications were called "stunning" by the San Francisco Chronicle, and "works of art in themselves" by the Sacramento Bee. Since 2003 we've exhibited over 3,000 artists, with great feedback.
There is no jury fee. If juried in, participation is $198 for one page, or $395 for a two-page spread. Optional 4.25" x 6" postcards are $98 for 600. Participants each receive 8 copies, and can list 8 collectors to be mailed a book with your compliments. Additional books are $39 for 8 copies. Shipping is included.
We jury from the image(s) you want to use. Please attach them to the submission form, or send via email. Printable JPGs or TIFFs please—at least 350 ppi when sized to 6” at the largest dimension. Do not upsize (add pixels) to achieve this.
The submission deadline is July 1st. You’ll be notified via email by July 10th, and receive digital proofs by July 20th. Fees are due August 1st upon layout approval. Publication is November 1st.
Our print edition was originally titled American Art Collector, and renamed American Artwork in 2018 to match the new online gallery.
Trim size was a 8.5"H x 6"W symthe-sewn book-format from 2004 to 2017, and a 10.5"H x 8"W perfect-bound magazine-format from 2019 to 2021. For this 2023 edition, we revert back to the original book-format by popular demand.
