Marlene Walters spent her early years in a foothill community that had originally been settled by nature-loving utopians. This view is present in her work as an oil painter where subject matter is varied and celebrates/elevates “the ordinary.” She has a B.A. in Art from Mills College and has studied with many prominent painters. Marlene works in series such as an on-going one that celebrates people going about their day-to-day activities, composing paintings to highlight both action and relationship in an impressionistic realism sometimes bordering the abstract.
