The painting depicts the subject’s moment of realization. The viewer sees the shadow of a winged figure, which appears to be confronting the subject with transformative news. The piece was inspired by The Annunciation theme which courses throughout art history. Here, the figure is nude and perhaps contemporary. She locks eyes with the viewer, as she receives the news with restraint and consummate emotion. The original is oil and egg tempera on canvas.
