I discovered the beauty of a cut orange on a blue plate, and placed this on paisley fabric. Employing the complimentary colors – orange and blue, the tension and vibrance heightened. The shiny ceramic plate set off both the delicate inside of the orange and complex fabric design. I positioned the set-up on a low table, so I could achieve a bird’s eye view. I painted, as if I were hovering above – the wind of inspiration holding me rapt and aloft. The original is oil on canvas.
Rebecca Gabriel holds an MFA degree from the University of Massachusetts.
